We studied 3 point lighting in order to gain a better understanding of how we could implement lighting to manipulate the room where we're planning to film the band scenes in our music video: to enhance the image, create realism, and create an atmosphere. We most likely use artificial lighting if we are filming in areas that lack natural light so that characters can be visible and often focus the orange filter on certain areas such as the drum stick hitting the drums or perhaps the hand strumming the guitar so the lighting can be used to direct a point of interest. However, we do not feel that this lighting looks very natural, and may deduct the element of realism in certain shots.
We decided to use a filter to experiment with different lighting possibilities. We feel that this creates a more natural look to shots, and this could be be used in interior shots in our music video.
Lighting proved to be of significance when filming the band elements because it created a natural vibe to our video rather than a stage, conforming to the indie-rock genre's authenticity. Lighting helped up better display our band performances when it came to filming as we ended up shooting in a dark room with a black background, therefore the 3 DLSR cameras which we used to film in a variety of angles could not have easily picked up on our points of interest without the three-point lighting.
